The Springfield Junior Blues and the Chicago Hitmen made an instant classic at the Nelson Center on Friday night; unfortunately for the 872 fans in attendance in Springfield, it ended in a win for the opposing team. Following a 0-0 first period, Springfield got goals from Cody Dixon, Kyle Cook, and two from Ethan Nauman in a four-goal second-period. Entering the third period, the Jr. Blues held a 4-2 advantage--but a resurgent four-goal third period from the Hitmen led Chicago to only there sixth win of the season. The Hitmen got two goals from Zach Mudge, one from Alex Murphy, and the eventual game-winner from David Gandara, which came with 1:09 remaining in the third period in a 4-4 tie game. The shocking loss moved the Jr. Blues to 10-15-1 overall on the season and Connor Girard got the loss in-net for Springfield, despite him stopping 28-of-33 shots attempted at him. Chicago won the game despite going 0-for-5 on the power play (SPR 1-for-4). Both teams will be back at it on Saturday night at 7 p.m. inside the Nelson Center--but don't forget to check out the third-annual Guns and Hoses Charity Hockey game, with the puck dropping at 4, and the doors opening at three.
