For the 312 fans that were in attendance, they seen the Junior Blues light up the red light seven times on the night—just one day after the team netted nine goals against the Hitmen—except for this game it wasn’t Kohn behind the net, it was Brett Kilar—who allowed six goals against the 44 shots taken against him.
Tyler Parks was in net once again on Sunday for Springfield—as he has received wins in back-to-back games. He saved 21-of-25 shots against him and played the full three periods inside the net.
Gavin Tufte got the scoring started for Springfield, after he lit up the lamp just 4:13 into the game—and just like last night, they never once looked back. Behind the three goals for Pontasch, and Tufte’s goal, also scoring for the Junior Blues were Ethan Nauman, Mike Williams, and Ben Kramer.
The Hitmen got goals from the likes of Sean Madigan, Zach Schrotenboer, David Gandara and Shigebobu Kakudate. Chicago got two goals on the power play in it’s four opportunities—while the Junior Blues scored three out of ten times on power play.
Following today’s victory, the Junior Blues moved to 12-15-1 overall on the season, and with 25 points moved into third place in the MidWest over Coulee Region (24 pts). Chicago fell to 6-20-1 and stays in last place in the division with a league-low 13 points.
Springfield will play three against St. Louis next weekend, with the Friday and Sunday matchups being inside the Nelson Center in Springfield. Friday night’s game will drop the puck at 7:00 p.m.
